Three things. A watertight lid seals the tray, so it does not spill on the way to the freezer and does not let freezer odors into the ice. An exterior O-ring and press-lock design let trays interlock and stack, so they sit on top of each other instead of taking a shelf each. And because the tray is sealed, it can freeze at any angle — it does not need a level surface. The unibody silicone also flexes, so you can pop out one cube without disturbing the rest.

Standard cubes suit everyday drinks — water, soda, iced coffee. XL cubes are sized for lowball cocktails or mason jars, where a bigger cube melts more slowly and waters the drink down less. If you want both, the Party Set includes a lid, a standard tray, and an XL cocktail tray.

Platinum food-grade silicone — non-toxic, BPA-free, and not petroleum-based. It is 100% dishwasher safe and stable from -76°F to 500°F, so it handles hot liquids and other foods as well as ice. The color-changing versions use a food-grade, child-safe thermochromic pigment integrated into the silicone rather than applied to the surface, so it will not wear off or leach into your ice.

About 6 hours — the same rate as a conventional tray. Sealing the tray does not slow freezing down. For the best results, especially with XL cubes, freeze overnight, around 12 hours.

Ice Device produces roughly 70% clear ice, which matches or beats a conventional tray. Purified or distilled water gives the clearest results. For genuinely clear cocktail ice, the Full Clear Cocktail Ice System adds an XL clear ice tray and an insulated enclosure that controls the direction the water freezes in, which is what pushes cloudiness out of the cube.

Yes. Trays and lids are interchangeable across the range, so you can start with one set and add trays later, or buy a lid on its own. The Ice Storage System is compatible with all other Ice Device trays and lids too.

Stale ice is usually open ice absorbing whatever else is in the freezer. Keeping the tray sealed while it freezes and while it sits is what prevents that. If you keep ice around for a while before using it, the Ice Storage System adds Icicle Core silica and carbon packets that absorb odors inside the storage tray itself.

Trays made with a food-grade, child-safe thermochromic pigment — the same idea as the color-changing spoons used to show when food has cooled enough to eat. The silicone shifts color as the water freezes, so you can tell at a glance whether the ice is ready without opening the tray. Same sealed, stackable design as the standard colors, at no extra cost.
